Black rice (karuppu kavuni) or the forbidden rice (Chinese) is a rare and very old variety of rice that has been growing in India for centuries. It is mainly grown in the North East region (called as Chak Hao) and the southern parts (called as Kavuni in Tamil) of India. Also known as youthful rice because when you eat this rice your aging of face stop i.e. it reduce in wrinkles. Black rice is a good source of iron, vitamin E, and antioxidants. The bran hull (outermost layer) of black rice contains one of the highest levels of anthocyanins found in any food. Kanda Sali is one of the traditional rice varieties of south India with lots of medicinal benefits; it is cultivated in the Cauvery Delta districts of Tamil Nadu.

Crop Duration : The duration of these crops are 180-200 days.

KATTUYANAM

Kattuyanam rice is one of the traditional varieties of rice cultivated in South India. In ancient period, the rice variety Kattu Yanam is known as kattudai Onan. The rice variety fade away over time, and revoked later by Nammazhvar and renamed as Kattuyanam. The Kattuyanam paddy crop grows up to seven feet tall and can grow to a level where an elephant can hide. That is why this paddy field is named as Kattuyanam (meaning wild elephant in Tamil).
